1838—1900

WINNER OF

NORTH CAROLINA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY’S

EXCELLENCE IN PUBLICATION AWARD

This 220 page book is an abstract of the Estate Records of Henderson County, North Carolina. The originals are located in 119 file boxes in the North Carolina Archives, Raleigh, North Carolina where they have resided since the early 1960’s.

This compilation consists of those records dated 1838 through 1900. The format is designed for easy reading and determination of generations. The book includes an extensive 32 page index listing over 5000 names in the surname and given name format. Some of the more extensive files include a synopsis of the documents in the file. Many estates include a list of slaves by given name and the household in which they lived.

A lot of the records not only list the living children or heirs but many times the deceased children/heirs and their heirs. Sometimes the descendants were given for three or four generations. Some of these estates took years to settle as the search for scattered descendants went on.

Professional printed by Gateway Press on 60 lb. Acid-free paper, notch bound, glossy film laminated cover.

Pricing:  $25.00 plus $4.00 shipping.  NC residents please add $1.75 NC Sales Tax

Comments from the judges for the North Carolina Genealogical Society Award: “The format is easy to follow and generations of heirs extracted from these documents are clearly laid out. The addition of annotations for a number of documents makes the work even more valuable.” “There are very few abstracts of estate records, making this volume both rare and useful.”
